Multimatic Honoured with 2006 Toyota
Technology & Development Award

MARKHAM, ON (February 23, 2007) - Multimatic has received this year's Technology & Development Award from Toyota Motor Corporation, Japan. The award recognises Multimatic as a top innovator and confirms Multimatic's position as a technology leader in the Global Automotive marketplace. The award was presented by Toyota President, Katsuaki Watanabe to Peter Czapka, President, Multimatic, in a ceremony held on February 23, 2007, at Toyota's Global Suppliers Convention in Nagoya, Japan.

The Toyota Technology & Development Award is given annually to Toyota suppliers in one of three sub-categories: "Parts & Material", "Facilities" and "Simple, Compact Manufacturing". Multimatic was presented with the award for their novel Tailgate Lift Assist technology featured on the 2007 Toyota Tundra and was only 1 of 25 technologies recognised globally by Toyota in the "Part & Material" category.

Multimatic's Tailgate Lift Assist uses a gas strut housed behind the taillight within the side wall of a pickup truck's bed, to control the opening motion and assist with closing a tailgate. This feature not only aids truck owners by providing a significant "lift" when closing, it also increases vehicle safety as it eliminates the "slam open" event experienced with most tailgates when opened. The lift assist mechanism does not interfere with the removal and re-installation of a tailgate as the mechanism is housed out of sight and out of the way. This innovative feature has proven desirable with truck owners, especially for newer tailgates that are increasingly taller and heavier.
